New Championship Course

New Championship Course

Somabay under architect Tim Lobb of Lobb and Partners look to build a course that is family friendly, but at the same time caters for all level of golfers. Set more in the heart of Somabay, the new 18-hole course, that is fast becoming known as the “Reef Course” will open amazing views of the Red Sea as well as the Desert Mountains as it meanders around the stunning inlets of Somabay. Holes 12-17 play down to the Red Sea which will create unobstructed views of the Red Sea and the holes 1-11 will play down to the bayside and Reef side of Somabay with views of the bay and desert mountains.

The vision agreed with Lobb and Partners was to create a golf course that utilized the strong existing contours of the topography as the challenge, with virtually no rough and bunkers the course will cater for all levels of golfers but will be particularly friendly to the novice and family golfers, while still providing an intelligent challenge to the more accomplished players. Tim Lobb the architect of the course in describing the course, said “It is our vision to create a unique golf course in Somabay with the use of the strong contours and the grass types. Warm season grasses will be used on the golf course with Pure Dynasty (Paspalum sp) as the dominate turfgrass for the playing surfaces. There will be virtually no rough and we plan to create ornamental grassland features cutting into the course and along the golfing boundaries.”

With construction well underway we intent to have:

  • 9 holes grassed and playing Q1 2026.
  • 18 holes grassed and playing end of 2026, beginning of 2027.
